Empowering Women for Peace (EWP): Towards the implementation of the National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325 & 1820 Project/EC (Code No: IfS-RRM/2014/355-035) is a three year’s project funded by European Union. The action is in line with the NAP’s five pillars of UNSCRs 1325 & 1820 and supporting UNSCR 1325 specific global indicators 19, 20, 25 and 26. It is also aligned with the Nepal Peace and Development Strategy (2010-2015) which considers the support to the implementation of NAP on UNSCRs 1325 and 1820 as a high priority referring to the importance of mainstreaming the resolutions across a range of peacebuilding and development areas. The action focuses on enhancing women’s leadership and participation in the key decision-making structures in the action districts by supporting women leader to take on leadership roles to promote peace and development and increasing the local level women leaders’ knowledge and understanding of UNSCRs 1325 & 1820 to effectively implement women, peace and security agenda in the districts.

The EWP project is implemented since 1st March 2015 by World Vision Advocacy Forum (WVAF) in partnership with the lead partner, Centro Cooperazione Sviluppo, CCS Italia Onlus (CCS Italy). CCS Italy has proficient working experiences with women’s organizations and educational institutions for improving livelihoods and human rights of girl and women. The organization has been working on generating research-based information and evidence on education, Gender Based Violence (GBV) and human rights issues in Nepal and elsewhere for 15 years. Being the lead partner, CCS Italy will take all the responsibility of communication and reporting with EC. CCS Italy will be responsible for the financial administration of the whole project. Furthermore, CCS will assist and monitor WVAF in applying EC procedures and posses the right to draft and implement jointly with WVAF financial, administrative and program monitoring frameworks and tools.

Overall Objective of the Project:

To facilitate the implementation of national commitments to gender equality and women’s human rights in order to consolidate peace in Nepal

Specific Objectives of the Project:

To strengthen the institutional and operational capacities of local civil society organizations (CSOs), private sector organizations, national government institutions and local authorities for local level implementation of NAP on UNSCRs 1325 & 1820 to promote women’s participation in peace, security and governance processes

The action will have the following results in order to achieve the above objectives:

Result 1:

Institutional and operational capacities of CSOs are strengthened for local level  implementation of NAP on UNSCRs 1325 & 1820

Result 2:

Networking and advocacy skills of local CSOs including women’s organizations are enhanced for improved participation of women in leadership and decision-making positions

Result 3:

Collaboration among local, national and international organizations is established through constructive dialogue for the implementation of inclusive peace, security and governance processes

Result 4: 

Success stories, lessons learned and best practices of the Action are documented for knowledge generation, up-scaling and replication
