Previous Projects

The TJRC which is continually operating in Anamnagar, Kathmandu, was established by WVAF in April 2011 under the project Establishing and Running a Transitional Justice Resource Centre (See-www.tjrcnepal.org) project funded by United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in close coordination with The Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction (MoPR). Currently the project is funded by Collaborative Leadership and Dialogue (CLDP)/UNDP Nepal under the title Strengthening Transitional Justice Process in Nepal (www.tjrcnepal.org) – Transitional Justice Resource Centre. The primary target groups of the project include conflict victims, civil society, academia and policy makers.

Overall Objective:

To contribute for the promotion of national harmony and a logical conclusion of the government’s peace process

Project Specific Objectives:

  • To provide a learning, information and common platform for conflict victims, civil society, academia, researchers, lawyers, and decision makers to develop a broad based consensus in compliance with international principles of transitional justice, and
  • To support efforts to build the capacity of practitioners involved in peacebuilding and transitional justice initiatives.

Project Results:

Strengthened capacity of transitional justice practitioners to implement transitional justice processes and mechanisms in line with the international standard

Project Output:

  • TJ practitioners capacitated with latest knowledge and skills on emerging issues of transitional justice, conflict mitigation and peace building.
  • Fostering constructive dialogues among conflict victims, civil society and decision makers regarding access to justice, reparation and restitution.

Major Activities of the project Include:

  • Transitional Justice Resource Centre (TJRC) as a 'safe space' for transitional justice practitioners
  • Publication and Dissemination of Transitional Justice Newsletter
  • Fortnightly talk programme on emerging Transitional Justice issues to formulate relevant recommendations
  • Organisation of dialogue among conflict victims, civil society, local authorities, and local chapters of Bar Association in regions
  • Organisation of dialogue among conflict victims, civil society, policy makers, political parties and external development partners in Kathmandu
  • Support to Civic Campaign Against Mass Amnesty
  • Project Advisory Committee meetings
